Books by Indy Authors:
Lots of authors give away free books on their websites. Below I list and link the very best of the bunch I have found, along with a review of their free offering.
I’ll be adding to the list as I discover more great writers.
Happy reading!
The Chatterbox Killer
Ian Patterson
Well written serial killer chase where the killer has a compulsion to call a specific cop, taunting him with clues to the next victim and his own identity. A great value as this is a complete full length novel.
Serenity
Craig A. Hart
Shelby Alexander, retired boxer and former fixer, is an unlikely hero living quietly in the unlikely setting of northern Michigan who gets hired to investigate the death of a young woman for her drug dealing family.
This one took a little work to get into because the main character isn’t your typical hero. Once I settled in, twenty pages or so in, Shelby began to grow on me. The well constructed characters, excellent dialogue and the mystery, pulled me reader along to the end of this well done, and chilly (winter in the UP. Brrrrr!!!!) adventure.
An entertaining read that made me want to check out more from this author. I picked up two more full-length Shelby Alexander adventures as soon as I finished reading.
Darkness Light
Michaelbrent Collings
This went in a direction I didn’t see coming from the blurb and the cover art but it was enjoyable and well written. Plus the guy has a lot of other books. If something that reminds me of Jason Bourne fan fiction written by Dean Koontz or Stephen King sounds like something you’d be interested in, check this one out.
Sleeping Dogs
Mike Donohue
A quick read with a unique hero. A nineteen year old thief trying to help his family without getting on the wrong side of the mob. Big potential for this character and this author.
Lesson in Crime
Wes Markin
A fairly lighthearted start to the career of Detective York who’s world becomes quite dark in later books. This story about York’s first murder investigation while he’s still a University Student in London has an interesting cast of characters and some nice humor.
Forged in Flames
David Beckler
The main character is a former Royal Marine and a firefighter who’s sucked into a situation involving a person in witness protection, an arsonist and attempted murder. The plot moves along at a good clip throughout this gritty prequel to the series. The author is a retired firefighter, so he provides a nice level of realism.
